The Cassian Fire Department was formed in 1964 and the first meeting was held Jan. 11, 1965. At that meeting there was discussion of a fundraising ice fishing jamboree to be held on Big Bearskin Lake. A one dollar donation was required to participate. There was also discussion on purchasing an ice auger and Jim Busche and Armond Duelman were to check on finding someone to demonstrate one. At the second meeting held Feb. 16, Mr. Dietz showed a film on atomic weapons and the fires resulting from them. Apparently this film was restricted from the public by the U.S. government. Chief Simmons also suggested purchasing a torch to thaw valves on the engine truck. The cost–$24.
